An ancient Admiralty Ordinance dictates the dimensions of decanters to be supplied to ships of the line, in the following terms. "The diameter measured across the base of the said receptacle shall approximate the span of a man's hand and the height of the vessel shall be the same, thus reducing the incidence of spillage". This crystal decanter conforms to this spirit with a wide heavy base. Made of hand-cut, 24% lead crystal with close-fitting stoppers. Holds 850ml (30fl oz).
